OMU UZEM Advances Institutional Occupational Health and Safety

Ondokuz Mayıs University’s Distance Education Application and Research Centre (UZEM), in collaboration with our academics, provides a comprehensive in-service training programme in occupational health and safety for all staff and students across the university. Designed for academic and administrative staff working in the university’s different units, these training courses aim to increase risk awareness and establish a culture of safe working throughout the institution. Topics include basic occupational safety rules, emergency management, ergonomics, fire safety, the use of personal protective equipment and the prevention of occupational diseases. The training is delivered synchronously and asynchronously through digital learning materials, educational videos and online assessment activities. To make access easier and allow participants to learn at their own pace, the courses are available through UZEM’s digital course platform (portal.uzem.omu.sh). The occupational health and safety training programme has reached a total of 11,047 participants to date. The participant groups are as follows: • SUVAM (Health Application and Research Centre): 2,798 participants • Staff occupational health and safety training: 5,191 participants • Student occupational health and safety training: 3,058 participants We value a healthy and safe working environment for all university staff and students. Our training programmes aim both to fulfil a legal obligation and to build awareness across society.
