OMU UZEM considers accessibility throughout the design and development of this website so you can use it with different devices, a keyboard and assistive technology. Our target is WCAG 2.2 AA. This guide explains how to use the features available on the site.
Keyboard navigation and quick access to content
After opening a page, press Tab to reach the “Skip to content” and “Skip to menu” links. Press Enter on the link you want. “Skip to content” takes you to the main content without moving through the header menu on every page.
| Key | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Tab / Shift + Tab | Move forwards / backwards through links, buttons and form fields. The focus outline shows your current position. |
| Enter | Open the focused link or activate a button. |
| Space | Activate the focused button. |
| Esc | Close an open menu, search window or enlarged image. |
| Left / right arrow | Move between tabs in tabbed content. |
| Home / End | Go to the first / last tab in tabbed content. |
Menus and search
Use the header menu on a computer or the menu button on smaller screens. Activate a heading's submenu button to display its options. The sidebar menu also marks the current page. An external-link icon identifies items that take you to another website.
Open the search button in the header, enter a programme name or topic, and choose a result. Press Esc to close the search window. To access learning systems, use the portals and systems page.
Appearance and text size
Use the sun / moon button in the header to switch between light and dark appearance. Your preference is saved in your browser. On a phone, the appearance button is also available in the top bar.
To enlarge text, use your browser's zoom setting: Ctrl + + on Windows or Linux, or Command + + on macOS. Use the minus key to zoom out, and Ctrl + 0 or Command + 0 to reset. On a phone, use your browser's text size and zoom options.
Using a screen reader
Pages are organised into main content, navigation and footer regions. Use your screen reader's region and heading shortcuts to reach the section you need. Lists, table headings and form labels help you follow the relationships within the content. If a form reports an error, review the relevant field and error message before submitting again.
Motion and images
Use the pause button in an automatically advancing image area. Enabling “Reduce motion” in your operating system's accessibility settings reduces supported site animations.
Open an image that supports enlargement through its link or button. Use the close button or Esc to return to the page. Alternative descriptions of informative images are provided to screen readers.
Videos and learning systems
For YouTube videos with captions, enable the player's CC / Captions button. Change the caption language and appearance in the player's settings. Automatically generated captions may contain errors in terminology, names and numbers.
Visit the live class help videos and learning portals. Controls in the learning portal or video provider may differ from those on this website.
Documents and access support
If an embedded PDF viewer is difficult to use, open or download the document in your preferred PDF reader. Some older or scanned documents may lack selectable text, a suitable reading order or alternative descriptions. Send us the document link and explain the accessible format you need.
Report an accessibility problem
Use the channels on our contact page. Include the following information to help us investigate:
- The link to the page or document you could not use.
